Asi 9 metrov vysoký kamenný vodopád situovaný pod hradom Šomoška patrí jednoznačne k najpôsobivejším prírodným výtvorom na Slovensku. Vznikol pred asi štyrmi miliónmi rokov stuhnutím lávy.
V 14. storočí sa vtedajší mocipáni rozhodli postaviť na Šomoške hrad, ktorý bol v čase tureckých vpádov významný strážnym bodom. Na jeho stavbu použili práve spomínaný čadič, ktorého sa v okolí nachádzalo dostatok. Takto bol odkrytý 9 metrov vysoký kamenný vodopád tvorený päť- a šesťbokými čadičovými stĺpcami, ktorého vek sa odhaduje na 4 milióny rokov. V takejto ohnutej podobe patrí medzi európske unikáty. Na druhej strane hradného vrchu sa zasa nachádza tzv. kamenné more, ktoré tvoria čadičové úlomky z rozpadajúcich sa stĺpcov a prímes materiálu z ruín hradu na ploche 40 x 100 metrov. Rozpad stĺpcov spôsobila často zamŕzajúca voda.
