ABOUT THE TOWER
On the top of the westernmost hill of Javorník, Stratenec, at an altitude of 1,055 meters above sea level stands a wooden observation tower. The tower was built under the project "Tourist route Javorník" which involved villages of Papradno and Karolinka. The tower on Stratenec is the highest observation tower in Javorníky, and was opened to the public in 2008. The tower is 8 meters high and has a viewing platform at the height of 5 meters. You can get there climbing up 22 steep stairs without railings. The tower is covered by a tent-like shingle roof. The tower has several useful friends - a shelter with tables and benches, information boards and a map. Not far away from the tower visitors can stumble upon a monument "Three crosses" dedicated to the memory of three soldiers who helped with the liberation of Veľké Karlovice in the WW II.
From the tower you can admire Slovak and also Moravian nature. To the north you can enjoy viewing deforested mountain ridges of Stratenec, Hontín-Vsetín highlands and the Moravian-Silesian Beskids on the Moravian side and Javorníky, Strážov mountains, Súľovské rocks and Malá Fatra on the Slovak side.
The observation tower is freely accessible all year round. You can reach it from several different directions – from the recreation center Kohútka - Portáš as well as Kasárne or the village of Papradno-Podjavorník or from Veľké Karlovice and Malé Karlovice.
