The Slovak Mining Museum was established in 1964 following the merger of the Town Museum and the State Mining Museum. The Open Air Mining Museum, which is one of its permanent expositions, is a unique museum of its kind in Slovakia.
Since it was set up, the Slovak Mining Museum has been building its collections focused on the area s of mineralogy, deposits, mining and technology, ethnology, art and history, archaeology and numismatics, as well as general history. It is a specialized museum that records the history of mining in Slovakia. It focuses on the whole of Slovakia, and within its region it also documents the history of Banská Štiavnicaand its environs.

Although the lakes are also called Studenské (after the village of Banský Studenec), they belong to the warmest secrets of Banská Štiavnica. The water in them is controlled, of sufficient quality for bathing. There are changing cabins on the shores of Lake Kolpaš. However, facilities providing services to holidaymakers are not here. The location will be appreciated especially by visitors looking for quiet, little visited natural swimming pools.
