The Castle Hrádok built on a small hill near the river Belá is situated in the town Liptovský Hrádok in the north of Slovakia. Though several versions of a story narrating the origin of the castle exist, one thing is certain: the first reference to the castle is from 1341.

The outskirts of the town of Liptovský Mikuláš are quietly guarded from the north-eastward by the hill Háj. At this place you can find the commemorative area with a cemetery and the war memorial dedicated to soldiers who were killed particularly in the spring 1945. This place should remain the symbol of patriotism which helped to resist fascism even at the cost of losing soldiers’ lives.

In addition to the primary function of a hotel and restaurant facility, which was partially preserved until the 1970s (the name of the company originated after 1850), the Black Eagle also served as a center of cultural life, whose significance exceeded the borders of Liptovský Mikuláš. In 1830, the history of Slovak amateur theater began to be written here, later several associations were housed in its building, including the cultural and reading association "Větín". During the May Day demonstration in 1918, the first public document by which the Slovak nation openly subscribed to the right to self-determination and to the idea of ​​Czech-Slovak reciprocity was heard in front of its participants gathered in the courtyard of the Black Eagle. At present, the building houses a unique exhibition from the history of hunting, hunting and fishing in Liptov, and numerous cultural and educational events take place here.

In Vážnice there is an exposition of the history of mining and metallurgy in Liptov, complemented by the clothes of a miner, a collection of mining lamps and working tools. The Maša Liptovský Hrádok Museum of Mining and Metallurgy presents the history of metal mining and processing in the form of two-dimensional panels with a text part and rich illustrative material. It was mined in the Bocianská and Ľupčianská valleys and in Magurka. Also in the area of ​​Liptovský Hrádok, Kriváň, Western Tatras and Čierny Váh.
