Observation tower Hájnica

Nature Interest, Monumnet, Architecture

Hájnica hill standing above the village of Haluzice is a resting place for those seeking relaxation in the heart of nature – just climb up Hájnica observation tower and enjoy views of the surrounding villages and their architectural gems – the Romanesque church in Haluzice or the Baroque church in Bošáca. The wooden observation tower is surrounded by huge hills, majestic castles (Beckov, Tematín and Trenčiansky castle) and beautiful canyons and valleys. There she stands with grace and enjoys her precious castle neighbors. The scent of wildflowers, sunrays, and the sound of bells coming from the village church create a unique atmosphere.

ABOUT THE TOWER

The observation tower Hájnica stands on the eponymous hill with an altitude of 341 meters. This beautiful wooden observation tower is a very popular place for domestic as well as other visitors thanks to its breathtaking view of the surrounding areas. The construction of the tower took only one month thanks to the help of Združenie obcí Mikroregión Bošácka and Moravian village Březová. The watchtower has been completed in 2013. Its 7.3 meters high with a footprint of 3.8 x 3.5 m.

Climb up the tower and enjoy a view of the beautiful scenery from all sides - the ruins of the medieval Haluzice church, Haluzice gorge and the villages of the picturesque Bošácka valley. Beckov castle appears to be even more majestic when looking at it from a bird´s perspective. Not very far away is Trenčín with its pride, the ancient castle. When the weather is good visitors can also see Trematín castle. The silhouette of White Carpathians and Považský Inovec makes your experience even more intense.

You can get to the observation tower using a marked hiking trail from Haluzice. With a slow-paced walk you can get from the municipal office in Haluzice to the observation tower in twenty minutes.

A MYSTIC CHURCH

In Bošácka valley on the outskirts of Haluzice stands a torso of the late Romanesque church that met its fate in 1800. The church was built in 1240 together with an enclosed defensive wall, tower and loopholes. Believe it or not even Matúš Čák of Trenčín wanted to own it. However, according to a tale the royal army took the "Haluzický Castle" from Matúč Čák back by force. The church was not only a worshipping place but also a hideout in times an enemy army, floods or violent storms would come. It occasionally served as a market hall or a place for public gatherings. Perhaps thanks to a force majeure the only remaining artifact of the church is a statue of the Madonna, now stored in the parish church in Beckov.

From time to time the chapel organizes worships and concerts of medieval music. These sacred chants are carried up to Beckov where they are heard by Madonna. Hopefully she would remember times when people of Haluzice prayed to her every day. It is therefore not surprising that even Alois Jirásek fell for church’s mystical atmosphere and mentioned it in his trilogy “Bratstvo (Brotherhood)”.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Natural forces keep deepening this amazing gorge even today. The gorge is an unusual natural creation – it is one kilometer long, 54 meters deep and 200 meters wide. Visitors can explore its uniqueness on foot - just take one of many nature trails.

ZEMIANSKE PODHRADIE

Among the most valuable monuments in Slovakia is an oval evangelical church built in the early Empire style in the 19th century. Its neighbor is a mansion that belonged to Ostrolúcky family. The park next to the mansion features several rare and old trees, like 500 years old linden under which thick branches once sat Štúr and Adela Ostrolúcka.
