NNM-Dobročský prales is one of the oldest conservation areas in Slovakia (since 1913). It inheres in absolute altitude of 700-1000 m above a sea-level and its area is 103.85 ha. The reason for its protection is the preservation of original forests that have been shaping for centuries. The development of Dobročský prales takes part in all stages (growing stage, optimum, destruction) and phases (reproduction and decline) that create characteristic image of the wildwood. The development cycle lasts four hundred years. The curiosity of primeval forest of Dobročský prales are trees and animals.

The Čertova dolina, which is very attractive for tourists, is located in the Muránska planina National Park, not far from the Zbojská saddle. The gorge, declared for valuable karst forms and preserved forest communities as a nature reserve, in places resembles the famous gorges of the Slovak Paradise.

The Forest Open-Air Museum is a living museum in nature. There are currently 84 stops on the more than four-kilometer "Forest Time Trail", which will offer you many views of the forest's life-giving capabilities with many interesting exhibits and, above all, natural forest habitats. One of greatest attractions in regions Horehronie and central Slovakia is the historic Čiernohronská forest railway (Čiernohronská lesná železnica). It once hauled timber down the picturesque valley of the river Čierny Hron, now it transports visitors and above all their children.

The Turkish bridge over the river Ipeľ in Poltár, in the south of central Slovakia, is the third oldest preserved bridge of its kind in Slovakia.

The Horehronské Museum in Brezno was established in 1960 as a National history and geography museum of the Brezno District.
